back to the basics / breanna rose

This summer, I’ve noticed myself wearing lots of neutral tees almost everyday – whereas growing up and in college, you’d often find me in brightly colored dresses + skirts. I don’t know if it’s just a part of growing up or me realizing how comfortable I am in a simple t-shirt, but I’ve decided to just go with it. With that said, this “back to the basics” attitude, above, is my new uniform of sorts, I guess!!

My favorite pair of denim right now is definitely Gap’s 1969 legging jean. They fit perfectly, don’t stretch out much, and are super comfy. Black is my color of choice and I may or may not have three pairs ( I always wait to buy during their 30% off specials ) since I wear them so much. Then, there are the new Everlane ryan tees I just bought. They make such QUALITY products at a seriously affordable price, which I can 100% get behind. The other products are sitting on my wishlist for now – I gotta learn to stop being so frugal ( to a fault ) and treat myself every once in awhile. Basics are worth it. Right!?

I have to agree with you on the gap jeans and wearing lots of neutrals. Always my go to uniform for comfort :)

  2. Lori says:

Totally agree – and that backpack is to die for. Thanks for the link!

  3. Danielle says:

Basics are so worth it! I live in them, too.

I am so cheap too! I have such a hard time spending money- in the store, I’ll put something back a few times before deciding on it. The flats from Madewell are also on my wishlist. I’ve been wondering how they hold up, though. I feel like my flats fall apart so quickly that I get nervous about investing in them!

I wonder that too about the flats! Maybe someone will read this comment who has them and let us know about the quality. :)

Madewell now has user reviews of all their products on their website–check those out, but the shoes got pretty good ratings.

Breanna — I’m totally with you about being frugal. I always ask a retail store if they offer educator discounts, because every single penny counts. I’m also with you on simplicity. I think it does have to do with us getting older and opting for the simpler things in life. :)

Yup. Can’t ever go wrong with a strong monochrome look like this. Flawless.

    Love the bag!!

I’ve had my eye out on flats and found a couple styles I like. One of them was those very flats from Madewell. Suede I like, but it never seems to last as long as I hope. I finally broke down and got a cheap pair of black flats from target while I try and decide on the pair I want to actually invest in… hah.

  9. Amy says:

I have that backpack (but in black) and I adore it. You should totally pull the trigger on it :)

  10. I feel the exact same way! Maybe it has something to do with making the move from living on an island to living in the big city but I used to love wearing bright, bold dresses and skirts but now I find myself most comfortable in a classic, neutral tee and jeans…almost everyday! And maybe sprucing it up with cute shoes and bag. Love your picks – especially that backpack!

I’ve also been making a switch to neutrals (+ just got a new Ryan tee in the mail yesterday !!). My days are mostly spent dreaming about a closet full of blues, blacks, greys, whites, and blush pinks. Maybe there is something in the air!

Flats are my go-to shoe of choice. I spent forever trying to find one that would hold up + last, and I have to say the ones from BC are my favorite (& they don’t break the bank, which is also nice):—9SM&H_P_Special=limo%20leather#

  12. I love, love, love Everlane. Waiting for my Ryan Tees right now.

  13. The Ryan tee is more than worth it! I just received mine in the mail earlier this afternoon. I never want to take it off :)
