Creative Diaires | Munster Rose | by Breanna Rose

Jackie Reisenaur of Munster Rose is a multi-dimensional creative force who has seemingly been a part of everything awesome going on here locally in Minneapolis as of late. I’m not sure when I first discovered her work, but I sure am glad I did. It’s easy to spot her gorgeous floral arrangements and eye for styling in all that she does. She kicks it up a notch and always ends up putting together something fresh, that’s for sure. For this creative diary entry, she was to focus on one single work day and answer a few simple questions about the good, the bad, and the inspiring. This is what happened, truthfully.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING THAT YOU DID THIS MORNING : Like many, the first thing I do is check Instagram. I love waking up to see what the other half of the world did last night, and what everyone is doing here right now. Then, when I can, I try read a book for a half-hour or so. It’s my way to ease into the coming craziness: be inspired by something as soon as I wake up.

DESCRIBE ONE CHALLENGE THAT YOU FACED : I found out that two weeks of emails might not have been delivered to clients because of a potential “glitch in the system.” When running a small business there is no IT department to help with your computer woes. It’s hard stuff. Especially when there are a million other things you need to do. You don’t budget an hour in your day to wait on the phone with technical support. But you need it. And you have to. These are the unglamorous sides being a business owner.

DESCRIBE ONE ACCOMPLISHMENT : Today I checked off three things on my to-do list that had been on every to-do list I’d made in the past month. You know, those things you save for last because you dread them? I was able to check off a few of those today. And it felt great!

DESCRIBE ONE THING YOU LEARNED : I called my Dad to talk about setting up a time to have brunch next weekend and we ended up talking about other things: a little about life and my business. He doesn’t know ANYTHING about floral design or styling, but he confirmed two important things – aka: lessons. 1.) Sometimes the best ideas come from outside your industry. 2.) Dads are awesome.

WHAT IS THE LAST THING YOU DID FOR WORK : Does doing this count? Then this. I like ending the day with a little introspection. Spending time reflecting on what’s working and what’s not, how to get Munster Rose where I want it to go, and what I want it to be.

AND JUST FOR FUN, DID YOU EAT ANYTHING TASTY : Of course! My life revolves around food/eating tasty things! I had the neon white fish bruschetta from Parka on Lake Street. It’s currently my favorite restaurant in my South Mpls neighborhood.

  1. This post makes me think of one thing… I need more plants in my life. And quite possibly Jackie’s lipstick from that second photo. One stylish lady for sure.

Right? When I saw the photos I was all “must. buy. more. plants.” It’s an obsession. ;)

    • YES, more plants please was what I was thinking, too. But do you also have problems to find simple and nice pots? We just moved and since we are having much more space now, we started buying plants. But most of them sadly don’t have pots yet – it is so hard to find something in the city, I can’t believe it. :D

I’m also in love with the idea of starting the day with a book!

  2. Katie says:

Oh how I can relate to being a small business without an IT department. I seriously spent at least two days trying to get a printer to print and I was so discouraged because I had absolutely no time to waste on that! It was so great to meet Jackie here! She is so relatable!

    • breanna says:

I feel like we can all relate to the IT tidbit, mannnn. I hope your printer is working well for you now. ;)

  3. Frances says:

Beautiful photos! I love reading the creative diaries; they are very inspirational and show what directions in life one can take. This is a great post, I loved hearing about her dad and how “Sometimes the best ideas come from outside your industry.” My dad often gets me going when I’m stuck, so I can relate. Thanks for sharing!

    • breanna says:

I loved that part, too! Although my own dad takes a little poking + prodding to get that sort of advice out. Ha!

  4. Neha Sharma says:

I had the same thought: MUST BUY ALL THE PLANTS. Her space is so lovely and I really enjoyed reading this one! :) It also makes me wish I knew how to make a floral arrangement that doesn’t look totally derpy, hahaha!

    • Jackie says:

YES to more plants! I can’t describe how amazing it feels to be surrounded by all that greenery. It’s esp. necessary during our long midwestern winters…

  5. Her work is STUNNING! I love the idea of waking up and reading a book. I usually save my reading for right before I go to sleep but maybe I’ll have to try waking up for inspiration…

  6. Ashley says:

Besides all the great plants and planters, she’s beautiful!

  7. Beautiful photos. Love the cabinet in the back, gorgeous!

  8. […] 5. A shelf to store all of the plants […]
