for bloggers / free icons

I was recently asked where I get my social icons from … and today I’m going to answer that very question, plus more!! Before I realized there were free resources available, I would create my own vector based social media icons from scratch from public logo files for specific programs. This allowed me to control the size, color, and how I wanted my icons to be displayed. Because not all bloggers are designers, I thought I would share a kickin’ resource with you guys that will surely help! Here enters Entypo. Click that link and see the magic!

These are free for you to use under the CC BY-SA 3.0 license ( you must attribute ) and include EPS, PDF, and PSD files. Plus, a font, too. What’s cool is that it goes beyond social media and has all sorts of fun pictograms that you may or may not need. I mean, you never know! It’s a good one to bookmark as it has many “essentials” you’ll ever need. Click right here to see more + download!

I also make my own icons, but usually they are just different colour iterations of existing logos and icons! These are adorable — thank you so much for introducing us to this resource!

Great resource! I haven’t tried it yet but it looks like lets you create your own icons to use as fonts! Might be useful in the future.

This is such a great resource. Although, I just recently found out that it is illegal to change social media icons for most sites (fb, twitter, etc) outside of what they give you and outline on their branding pages. But this is definitely useful for everything else! Thanks!

  9. Oh, my! This is awesome!! I ended up making my own for lack of knowing/finding cool ones out there on the big wide web…bookmarking this, for sure – thank you! :)

  29. Naomi says:

Thanks for sharing! I hadn’t heard about Entypo yet, it is a very nice collection. A friend of mine just sent me a link to something called ‘The Noun Project’ – The idea is that many designers together create icons for all kinds of different words and that you can buy them individually (some are free, some are creative commons, some cost two dollars). Did you know about the project? I really like it!

  30. aftonbladet says:

Hey! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing
a blog article or vice-versa? My blog covers
a lot of the same topics as yours and I believe
we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to
be interested feel free to send me an e-mail. I look forward to
hearing from you! Wonderful blog by the way!

  31. To those looking for more obscure icons in a range of designs, The Noun Project is a great source! Also usable under Creative Commons with attribution or very affordable (~$2 per icon) to waive the attribution.
