Getting Hitched | Curated by Breanna Rose

Over six years ago, I went to my senior prom with a guy named Michael. I had never gone to a school dance before ( true story and kind of lame, I know ) and although it was a big deal, I had no clue just how significant that day would be. And to keep a long story short, for now, I’ll simply fast forward to the present. A few weeks back, my best friend ( and best prom date ) proposed to me. This came after the purchase of our first house and puppy, so needless to say : it’s been an exciting + busy few months. I still can’t quite grasp how lucky we’ve been and am thankful everyday for this little thing called life.

So like any creative would, I took to pinterest right away ( well, almost … first we had to celebrate and feast of course ) and created a wedding board to collect my thoughts for the big day. Prior to getting engaged, I honestly hadn’t really given my “future wedding” a lot of thought. And although it seems a bit overwhelming, I’m excited to start off with a blank slate. The above board is by no means finished, but instead perpetually in progress. Feel free to follow along with my pinboard here or share any helpful tips ( please! ) in the comments section below. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Lara Coleman says:

Congratulations! Usually most wedding pinterest boards look the same, but yours really has a unique yet cohesive feel! My two favorites are the s’mores and the “sit wherever you want” sign, so cute!

  2. Danielle says:

Congratulations!!! There’s something magical in the air these past few weeks :)

  3. Sally says:

Big congratulations Breanna! I’m loving the look of this inspiration board already!

  4. Quyen says:

Congrats! What an exciting time. I can’t wait to see what wedding designs you come up with! One word of advice: even if you think you have tons of time to prepare, it is best to do it all early on because it really creeps up on you! Have fun and good luck with the planning process!

  5. Molly says:

Congratulations! You have such good taste, I’m sure your wedding will be beautiful.

  6. emma says:

Congratulations! Such beautiful images, i bet it will be beautiful!

  7. Shayla says:

I’m so excited for you Breanna!
Marrying the love of my life and purchasing a home with him was one of the best things I have ever done! Being married is all it’s cracked up to be and more in my humble opinion. :)

We had a really small, intimate, diy wedding if you want to check it out ( I loved everything about our day and wouldn’t change a thing and I just know your day will be equally as lovely and you’ll feel the same. Have you all set a date yet?

    • breanna says:

Thank you dear! Your wedding looked lovely. :)

We have set a date – August 2nd, 2014! Feels far away, but I’m sure it will all fly by. Yikes. xx.

  8. Yay! I am loving what you have put together so far! My biggest tip for wedding planning is if you prioritize first, you will never spend a day stressing. I planned my (very small) wedding in less than two months, and everything came together just how I imagined. Everybody talks about weddings being stressful, but they don’t have to be at all!

  9. Tilly says:

    Awww… congratulations you two! x

  10. stephanie says:

congratulations! having just gone through the wedding planning process, my advice would be to indulge in Pinterest in the beginning, then leave it alone and only check back to your boards when you need a references. after a while, I started feeling like I needed three or four weddings in order to incorporate all the cool ideas I liked, so I had to step away!

    • breanna says:

Oh, great tip! I’m sure I’ll rely a lot on pinterest – so I will definitely keep this in mind. :)

  11. Emily says:

Congrats, Breanna! The ring is gorgeous :) Can’t wait to see all the wedding inspiration you spin up as you begin planning!

  12. Vanessa says:

AH! So happy for you :)

  13. Casandra says:

I saw you’d like to use chalkboards, so here’s idea for your board:
and this one for the kraft paper:

  14. Maja says:

Oh, all the best wishes! How exciting!!!

  15. daria says:

how exciting! that’s a board to follow :)

  16. Monica says:

Congratulations! I can’t wait for more wedding related posts. Pinterest is amazing for wedding planning! I like the hint of greens/natural elements in your mood board.

  17. Angel Y. says:

Isn’t it neat how the smallest events could change the course of your life? How exciting for you and your fiancé! Your pinboard already looks full of fun and exciting things. Congratulations again! :)

  18. Emma Irene says:

Congratulations! I’m less than 5 months out from my own nuptials, and I would say the biggest tip that has helped me is to find a super comprehensive to-do list. Go through it together, and highlight the absolute must have (guests, food, venue). Next, highlight the things that matter most to the two of you specifically (for me and my fiance it was music, craft beer, guest lodging, transportation). Then cross everything else off the list. It’s so easy to get totally swept up in all the details that may not actually matter to you or your guests. That edited list has really helped me keep things in perspective.

Also, I’ve found it helpful to add a very frank wedding blog to my reading list: It’s a nice, sugar-free reality check if things ever get too hectic.

    Happy planning!!

  19. Stacia says:

Congratulations! That’s so exciting! Best of luck to you in this planning process!

  20. Felicidades por esa nueva etapa en tu vida y por tu futuro matrimonio. ♡♡

  21. Nesha says:

BIG congrats to you both! Enjoy planning your wedding!

  22. Breanna, I am so excited and overjoyed to read this great news! Congratulations!!!!

  23. Maggie says:

Congratulations! My wedding was just 9 days ago (seems like a million years ago already!) but I will hands-down tell you the BEST money you can spend is on a day-of coordinator. Ours worked for 6 weeks leading up to the day, which seemed to be the norm. Everything was handled, no one asked ME any questions, I was just free to enjoy the day with my best friends and love of my life. If anything went wrong, I have no idea – it was handled. Worth every penny. Good luck with your planning!

  24. Christine says:

Congratulations! Your wedding will be beautiful, I sense it!

  25. giulia says:

congratulations, bre! i didn’t know, how exciting:)
i am IN LOVE with that theme you chose for the wedding, it’s gorgeous! i have no doubts your wedding will be beautiful and cannot wait to see this happen!!!

That is so amazing, Bre! I’m so happy for you! I can’t imagine how much work it would be to plan a wedding, especially as a creative, but I’m sure yours will come out GORGEOUS! :)

    Congrats, girl!

  28. Sara says:

Congrats! I have no doubt in my mind that your marriage will be as beautiful as your wedding (if your pinboard is anything to go by!)

  29. Brianna says:

Congrats again! So excited for you :) And love love love the natural elements mixed with metallics in your board. Maybe you can rent all the gold flatware and benches you like? Check out Style Me Pretty’s wedding page, it’ll help you find all kinds of ideas for your theme.

    • breanna says:

Thank you, lady! ;) Already on the whole renting gold flatware and found a place. Crossing my fingers we can make it work!! Cause that would be the bomb.

  30. Anni says:

I know I already said congrats somewhere (Twitter? Instagram? Who can keep track anymore?!) but seriously, so happy for you!

Your inspiration board is beautiful and I know your wedding will be, too. But even more than that, I wish you a happy & lifelong marriage – my husband and I were married about a year and a half ago, and it’s the best thing I ever did. I thought for sure things wouldn’t really change since we lived together beforehand, etc, but honestly, they did – not in an “oh my god, everything’s different!” way, but in more a quiet, solidifying way. It’s amazingly awesome, hard work and all.

    • breanna says:

Thank you thank you ( again!! )

And gosh, I love what you said. I was wondering what all would change – being that we’ve been together for 6.5 years and live together and all that jazz. But I can’t wait to feel that quiet solidifying newness. Love it.

  31. Meg Lewis says:

Aww, congrats! You deserve all of the greatness in the world. So happy for you both.

  32. Amber says:

Oh my, I can only imagine how beautiful your wedding is going to be — the attention to detail will be fantastic. Your board already reflects that. :)

I wish I could be your wedding photographer!!

Best of luck with your wedding planning!

  38. Congrats Girl, so excited for you and your man :)

  39. Marie Warne says:

Huge congratulations! Planning a wedding is so exciting – I fondly remember planning mine 20 years ago – yes, we’re still happily married. Always remember, and never forget that it’s really about the marriage, and not just the wedding. Make the ceremony and reception meaningful to you and try not to let others (read: parents, parents-in-law) influence you or pressure you into things that you’re not comfortable with.

  40. I am so thrilled for you two! My husband and I were married last year and the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to follow your heart. Don’t let anyone talk you into doing anything you don’t wait to do. Wear the clothing you want, eat the food you want, have the band you want! The day goes by much too quickly so be sure to take in every moment and watch your partner closely. I still think back to that sweet smile on my guy’s face that day…

  41. Cintya says:

Congratulations! I have also been on the web creating inspirational boards for my future wedding (we still haven’t decided a date). is seriously one of my favorite blogs when it comes to wedding ideas and inspirations.

  42. Dallas says:

Congratulations Breanna! I’m a longtime reader and admirer of your work and I’m so happy for you. My advice would be to have some fun on Pinterest but then to follow your usual creative process that you use for your work and your personal projects. Step away from your computer screen, go for walks with your fiance and talk about what you two love together, what things and concepts and colours etc speak to you two as a couple. Base your inspiration around that! Also, don’t be afraid to embrace traditions you love but also be bold enough to start your own. Lastly (and this is me speaking as a photographer now) make sure you create a wedding day timeline that has lots of room for relaxing. It serves as a good time buffer if things go off schedule, allows more time for natural looking, unrushed photos, and for you to truly enjoy yourself on the big day!

  43. Oh! This makes me so happy. Marriage life is… well, overwhelmingly amazing. Each day with my husband, we both astonish ourselves with just how much our love can grow just over night. There’s both ups and down, but that is what makes it so exciting. :) I am truly happy for you, Bre!!

And wow — your pinterest board is stunning! Such an elegant Tennessee/Kinfolk-style sort of wedding. I love it! Have you decided upon a photog yet? You know, Olivia Rae James would be perfect. ;)

  44. Carolyn says:

Congratulations! That’s such a super sweet story!

  45. Congratulations, Breanna! I’m thrilled for you! The board looks beautiful and I hope you’ll share more throughout the process!

  46. Simone says:

Since when is life a little thing? :) For me it’s the biggest thing I have! It contains anything!

  47. Congratulations!! I think Pinterest is the perfect place to begin cultivating your dream wedding ideas, good luck!! This board rocks :)

  48. Carina says:

Congratulations Breanna! How so exciting for the two of you — and thanks for adding my save-the-dates to your board! I saw on your Pinterest you weren’t totally sure how to send them…we ended up packaging them up with a photo of the two of them (they were created for my twin sister) into a longer/thinner envelope. In hindsight, people said the photo was very helpful as the save-the-date didn’t have their last names on it, so it was good to see who it was! Here is the full post:
    Best of luck with everything!

    • breanna says:

Oh goodness! I’m so grateful you saw this + responded. :) Love the idea of photos w/ the tags and now see how you did it. Looks like it worked well!

  49. Anna says:

YAY! I’m so happy for you!

  50. Roxy says:

What wonderful news! I’ve been married for just over a year now, my hubby and I got married on his family dairy farm in South Africa and had a Farmstyle Vintage theme. Having done all the decor ourselves, I can honestly say that although its a lot of hard work its wonderful being able to look around and know that you had a hand in EVERYTHING :) All th very best, your blog is beautiful and I’m sure your wedding is going to be magical. Just remember the wedding is just a day, your marriage will be the real adventure :)
