snippets / breanna rose

The lovely Cassie Pyle, a good friend of mine + blogger at The Veda House helped me a bit with Lightroom this week. Her and I have such similar taste when it comes to photography and design, so I knew she would be the one to school me. In order to move forward / play around, I took a few test shots of little trinkets I have lying around the apartment. It’s a smattering of letters and little snippets I’ve received from clients + friends or at various events. I totally had a fun time piecing things together, just for fun.

My absolute favorite part of it all is the test film strip ( in the top photo ) of my Grandma Bea when she was a young lady. She passed away last September & I miss here every single day, so you can imagine my excitement when I found this little goodie in her treasure chest. I knew it would be the perfect piece to put up on the wall and keep close to me. I often glance up right to that photograph and can still hear her say my name. “Breanna Rose!!” It was always my first + middle name combo and usually in reference to something weird or silly I had done. Miss & love you forever, Grandma.

  1. Oh best wishes with your lightroom project! How special that photo strip is! I love having photos of my grandparents, they really do seem to have so many memories that can come from just looking at a photo! =)

lovely. and such a sweet memory to share of your grandmother. i love going through the old photos of my grandparents…their stories, their hopes and their dreams come to life again. i also love hand-written letters, and write often to my grandparents who live in a different city. such treasures, those grandparents are!

What a wonderful selection :) I keep a similar photo strip of my Grandma from the 40’s too! I think the name calling must be a grandma thing because mine has never called me anything but Charlotte Jayne!

Photographed and styled really nicely! I have been putting off shooting + re-shooting stuff for my own portfolio. I should grab a friend and make it a team effort, I know she needs some updating too. Stuff like this is so much fun when you don’t need to do it by yourself!

  5. love this little collage sooooo much. the colors, patterns, graphic style, plus your cute instax film :) now i need to go scavenger for old photos of my gram too.

I recognize a lot of the stuff in this, wink**

Great shots! What kind of light + time of day do you use to shoot portfolio work? Also what sort of backdrop material seems to work best for you?

I tend to shoot earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon – otherwise the lighting is TOO harsh in my apartment. I usually just use white foam core board on the bottom + sides as well as for reflecting material!

Very clever collections ;) I also love the sweet memory of your grandma. It’s amazing how sometimes something as small and seemingly insignificant as a film strip can hold such rich memories.

In the South you know your in trouble if you hear your first and middle name used lol.
