breanna rose / living room checklist

We officially became homeowners last Thursday ( AHH!! ) and spent this past weekend unpacking boxes and getting used to life with more space. We are far from making this place truly our own, but I’ve definitely been enjoying putting together idea boards and checking things off our list one by one. Our big project this weekend was painting the main living + dining room WHITE. It took 14 hours, 3 coats, and 2 people. Yikes. Needless to say, I don’t foresee painting that room for a long long time.

I’ve been all over the place in terms of decor, but have finally decided on a route to go. I put the above checklist together to help visualize some of the main things we need to pick up. Good thing there are some great labor day sales going on right now!! I’m definitely heading out this afternoon to see what we can score. Any tips or recommendations are gladly welcome! Interior designers … I bow down to you.

    I adore white walls!
I didn’t know it would take SO long – it’s quite the weekend project.
    So far, everything looks great!

  2. So, so exciting! We have been painting like crazy over here too. Every single room was painted an awful yellow taupe color. Everything is nearly all white and fresh now! We moved our new couch in this weekend and I’m starting to look for rugs. I have found out I am strangely picky though… :/

Oh man, I’m jealous that you are “nearly” finished painting things white!! We are definitely not close at all and going to do it in snippets, ha. Tough work. ;)

  3. Jamie says:

    How exciting! Congrats!

I am a big fan of the black, white with neutrals and color accents. I’m sure you’ll have the most styling house in the neighborhood.

Congrats, what an amazing feeling!!! Love your inspiration :)

  7. That’s extremely exciting + BIG news! Congrats to you guys!! :) I dream of the day that my husband and I own our own home… so happy for you!

I love your style by the way. :)

    • Also… you should totally have a Painting Party! Invite a bunch of friends over, provide food, crank Spotify, and put them work! ;) You’re entire home will be finished in no time!

      Always worked for me. :)

    • breanna says:

Thank you!! Inviting friends over is a goooood idea. Our problem is that most of our good friends that would actually help live a few hours away. Apparently we need to have a “come stay at our house weekend” huh?? Ha! :)

  8. what a good idea to do a streamlined list – so helpful to move from pictures to focus…we’re about to start on our new house in copenhagen so i’ll give this technique a go. congrats on the new digs!

Congratulations! Your plans look so so good!

We finished up unpacking our tiny house the other day after 6 months. A nightmare for me as a neat freak. I bow down to anyone with enough motivation (and spare time!) to make it happen quickly! Hopefully you will fall into the latter category though, for your sake!

Ha, I don’t think we’ll be unpacking quickly. My goal is to focus on one room at a time, so we can buy proper storage + organization and make sure everything has it’s own place. At our last apartment, things just got stored randomly and I always felt so disorganized about it!

Exciting! I currently have a huge frame list ahead of me. I have so much artwork I want to get up! I’ve been living here and there for the past year and procrastinating actually settling in, time to change that!

  11. goodness gracious, your blog is way beautiful

  12. Quyen says:

Congrats! I think you have a great starter checklist. Don’t forget to add the pieces that makes it feel personal and like home: Items you picked up during your travels, family photos, and little quirky details. Also, a candle does wonders!

  13. Say what you will, but I have a feeling this house is going to look pretty awesome. Congrats, I can’t wait to see pictures!

  14. kaylee says:

do you have a pinterest board dedicated to the design aesthetic of your new house? i’d love to peruse it if you do!

  15. Elizabeth says:

I love the board you put up – the butterfly poster by HagedornHagen, which you have at the top, right is on my wishlist :) Oh – and that rug… *sigh*. I so wish a white rug were toddler-friendly…

Good luck with the painting – the result will be SO worth it :)

  16. Good pick, white walls are amazing. But a real pain in the ass to paint :-). My dad recently painted my whole house in two weeks, all by himself. But the result is fa-bu-lous. Can’t wait to decorate. I also have my moodboards set. Thanks for reminding me of greenery ;-).

  17. that is awesome! We’ve owned in St Paul for about 5 years. What worked for us is working on each room at a time. Room and Board Outlet has nice finds, and the Blue Dot 1x a year sale is awesome (I think it was in June though). And I find a lot of great things at estate sales.
