wantlist / new house

Guess what?? We bought a house! Well, almost. Everything is in the works and we should close in the next couple of weeks, which isn’t all that far away. Crazy. With that said, I’ve definitely been doing a little online shopping as of late and bookmarking things that we’d love to put in the new place. One thing I learned about myself when we moved into our current apartment is that I hate boxes + bare walls. Not feeling moved in drives my nuts. BUT, this time around will be different. I’m going to move slowly from room to room and be intentional with what we do. I am by no means an interior designer, so slow is key. You can check out some of the items I’ve got my eye on below :

  1. Emma Irene says:

Congratulations! We aren’t yet ready for a house but the plan is to stay in our upcoming apartment for the foreseeable future, so I, too, have to force myself to be patient and deliberate with how I decorate the space. Since leaving my parent’s place after high school, I’ve really never had a living space that felt like it had any sort of permanence or like it was truly my home. I’m really excited to start building that for me and my fiance.

    Enjoy creating your home!

  2. I’m sorry, are we the same person? I had the exact same feelings and thoughts when my husband and I bought our house. He does not understand why I paint every free moment I have or why I made a pinterest board for each room in the house. I hope you have lots of fun with it!

  3. Amy says:

What?! You bought a house!!! That is SO exciting — congrats to you both! I know I’d be pumped to decorate too. Can’t wait to see progress pics…have fun with it and enjoy every moment!

  4. JACLYN says:

That’s so exciting! Congrats!! I am obsessed with chairs like that too! And that light is stunning! Exclamation points!!! ;)

  5. Kory says:

That’s so exciting, gal! I’m so happy for you guys!

  6. Ashley says:

Your want list looks almost identical to my new living room. We moved into our new house in SW Mpls May 30 and I went crazy – I should share a picture with you. I was also obsessing over Thrive Furniture – make sure to check out truemodern.com … they use similar materials, made in USA, and have the exact same swatches. Depending on the piece of furniture, their prices can be a tad lower. AND as janky as it sounds, rugsusa.com has a super similar rug that’s very wallet friendly (search: Tuscan Moroccan Shag). Have fun!!

  7. Congrats!! :) Such an exciting time! We moved into our first ‘real’ place a few months ago, and we’re still surrounded by boxes, because I swore this time I’d be methodical and thoughtful about everything I put somewhere, and not just throw it all in to be unpacked. lol. It’s worth the slowness, so far! Good luck with everything… :)

  8. Wow, congrats! I remember how exciting it was getting handed the keys for the first time. I can’t wait to see how your place comes together both on Pinterest and in real life. ;)

  9. Congrats! I love all of these pieces, especially that couch! We have similar chairs and I admire them everyday.

  10. Brittany says:

Congrats on the new house! My fiancĂ© and I are in the process of buying a house, too (hopefully closing by the end of the month!). I am the same way about moving in/decorating–bare walls just don’t feel like home. It looks like you’ve got a good start so far–I love all of these pieces!

  11. A whole house!!? OH my goodness, congratulations. The idea of buying a house still frightens me, haha! I guess when the right one comes along, you just know. We are taking a trip out of the country next month and are hoping it may lead to actually living abroad…

  12. Katharina says:

    OH! exiting news!
your shopping list is gorgeous! love the pillow (I’m a hamster when it comes to pillows… you never can have enough of them…)
all the best with your new home! keep my fingers crossed that there is not much to renovate! (I know what I’m talking of…. : / )
keep us on track about your new-to-be-house!

    from vienna with love,
    Katharina

  13. Sarah says:

Make sure you read the thrive return policy really really carefully before you buy. It’s not nearly as transparent as they make it out to be. We have one of their couches in Klein Azure (the dark teal color). We get compliments on it all the time, but I may have reconsidered had I read the return policy more carefully. The fabric is so dark and nubby that it’s really hard to keep looking clean, even though our cat isn’t allowed on it, there’s always visible fur.

    • breanna says:

Oh whoa, thanks for the heads up!! Not sure if we’re buying a couch from there – it depends on budget once we actually get in and sort everything. :) I’ll definitely keep this in mind!!

  14. Anni says:

Congrats, that’s amazing news! I love every single thing on your wantlist, by the way. Our sofa is from Thrive and we adore it!

  15. Lyndsey Pase says:

So happy for you! I’m not an interior designer either, and decorating/furnishing a house is expensive…so we had been doing a little at a time. What I’ve found works best is to do one room or area at a time (paint color, furniture, decorations, etc.). Buying something we liked because we liked it doesn’t work near as well as making a plan for an entire area…everything just comes together so much easier. Plus it’s much less stressful in the end when you’re trying to decorate your living room with a bunch of hand-me-down pieces that don’t go well together. I know it sounds like common sense (and maybe it’s obvious…), but we went from an 800 sqft apartment to a 2300 sqft house, and were either overwhelmed or ignorant of how to properly make it ours. We’ve been home owners for just over two years now and only have about 25% properly decorated…but the rest is functional and we love the space! I also recommend painting before moving your furniture in, if time allows! ;)

  16. Congratulations! I hope you will share it with us along the way! Even if you’re not an interior designer, your style sense is fantastic, and I’m SURE it will transfer. :) Good luck!

  17. Kelly says:

That couch is gorgeous and I love that printed pillow!

  18. Kayla says:

This mood board is gorgeous. I’m obsessed with tribal print, but can’t commit to it in my house because my styles change so frequently. But I’ve been wearing it a ton!

  19. My husband and I are in the exact same process and about to close in a couple weeks!! I’ve been pinning like a mad woman. I can’t wait to get my hands on my OWN house. I’m also NOT an interior design at all and love the decorate room-by-room process. I highly recommend it. I started a series about it for out condo (now transitioning to our home) called “Project Condo”, you can check it out here: http://maiedae.blogspot.com/search/label/project%20condo

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
